Ansonia Schools Superintendent Joseph DiBacco issued a memo to parents on Wednesday, Oct. 28 cautioning that someone tested positive inside Prendergast Elementary School who was last inside the building on Monday, Oct. 26.
DiBacco said that after discussing with the Naugatuck Valley Health District and conferring with the state Department of Public Health, multiple classrooms in the school's "cohort A" will be quarantined for 14 days.
Anyone who may have been exposed to COVID-19 has already been contacted by the district. On Wednesday, DiBacco noted that the school’s custodial staff disinfected and sanitized Prendergast School, while other district buildings remained open.
During the quarantine, the rest of Prendergast Elementary School will remain open in the district’s hybrid model.
DiBacco said that “quarantining as a result of close contact tracing is not an indication that someone has contracted the virus; it is simply a prudent and precautionary step.”
“We cannot oversell the fact that our best protection from broad transmission of COVID-19 within our schools is a knowledgeable and attentive community,” DiBacco stated.
“You have a part to play in keeping everyone safe by performing a daily health screening,” he continued. “Families should err on the side of caution when deciding whether or not to send children to school if symptoms develop.”
